What you see
Potatso goes back to Not Connected without you turning it off, and the VPN icon disappears from the iOS status bar.
Likely causes
iOS stops a VPN when the network changes, when the device is low on resources, or when the tunnel reports an error. Low Power Mode and a weak signal make iOS stop VPNs more often.
See why it disconnected
Open Settings > Troubleshooting and tap Keeps Disconnecting. Last Disconnect Reason shows the error iOS recorded the last time the VPN stopped. If it says "iOS hasn't recorded a reason for the last disconnect", iOS didn't give one.
The Statistics tab also keeps a Session History. Tap All to see each time you connected and how the session ended:
| Session end | What it means |
|---|---|
| Disconnected | You or Potatso turned the connection off. |
| Replaced by another VPN | Another VPN configuration took over. iOS runs one VPN at a time. |
| Network lost | The network went away or changed beyond recovery. |
| Connection failed | The tunnel failed. |
| Stopped by the system | iOS ended it for another reason, such as sleep, an idle timeout or an app update. |
| Ended unexpectedly | The tunnel ended without being stopped, such as a crash. |
Session History shows the last 7 days. Pro keeps a year of sessions.
What to try
- Turn off Low Power Mode, or move to a stronger signal. Low Power Mode and a weak signal make iOS stop VPNs more often.
- Switch servers. If it only happens with one server, switch to another one.
- Check for another VPN app. If the session ended with Replaced by another VPN, another app's VPN took over. Turn it off, or remove it in iOS Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
- Send a report right after it happens, so the logs still show what stopped it.
Contact support
On the Keeps Disconnecting page, tap Send Report right after a disconnect. Potatso opens an email to support with the last disconnect reason, recent logs and your configuration attached.
