# Move from Clash Verge, ClashX or Mihomo

Potatso reads Clash and Mihomo configurations, the format Clash Verge, ClashX and other Mihomo-based apps use. Import the same subscription URL or configuration file on your iPhone or iPad, and your proxies, proxy groups, rules, rule providers and DNS settings come along.

## Bring your subscription {#subscription}

1. Copy the subscription URL from your provider, or from the profile in your Clash app, and send it to your iPhone or iPad.
2. In Potatso, on **Home**, tap the **+** button, then **Import via Link/File**.
3. Paste the URL and tap **Continue**.
4. Check the preview. Under **Import To**, choose where it goes, then tap the button at the bottom.

Potatso identifies itself to the subscription server as `clash.meta`, so a server that picks the format by app sends the same Clash / Mihomo configuration your computer gets.

A subscription imported from a URL keeps updating, daily by default. Changes you make in Potatso are kept across updates. Potatso downloads the subscription as the server sends it: changes you made to the profile in your Clash app aren't part of it. See [Import subscriptions and configurations](/docs/guides/import-subscriptions/).

## Bring a configuration file {#file}

If your configuration isn't from a URL, or you want the version you edited on your computer, import the YAML file:

1. Move the file to your iPhone or iPad, so that it's in the Files app.
2. In Potatso, tap **+**, then **Import via Link/File**.
3. Under **Source**, choose **File**, then tap **Choose File…** and pick the file. It must be UTF-8 text and no larger than 5 MB.
4. Tap **Continue**, check the preview, and import.

You can also paste the whole configuration into the field under **Link** instead of choosing a file. Either way, the configuration is imported once: it has nothing to update from.

## What carries over {#carries-over}

| From a Clash or Mihomo configuration | In Potatso |
| --- | --- |
| `proxies` with a supported protocol | ✅ See [Protocols](/docs/protocols/). |
| `proxy-providers` | ✅ |
| `proxy-groups`: `select`, `url-test`, `fallback`, `load-balance`, `relay` | ✅ |
| `rules`, including `AND`, `OR`, `NOT`, `GEOIP`, `GEOSITE` and `RULE-SET` | ✅ Rules Potatso can't represent are skipped. |
| `rule-providers` | ✅ |
| `dns` | ✅ |
| `mode` | ✅ Becomes the profile's outbound mode. |
| `sub-rules` | ❌ Not imported |
| Proxies of other types, such as WireGuard, TUIC or SSH | ❌ Skipped |

The preview lists everything it skipped under **Compatibility Issues**, with the reason. Skipped rules are listed with their rule number, so you can find them in your configuration.

Potatso has no HTTPS decryption (MitM), rewrites or scripts.

## After you import {#next}

1. On **Home**, check the outbound mode. A configuration with rules imports in Rule mode, unless its `mode` says otherwise. See [Outbound modes](/docs/guides/outbound-modes/).
2. Turn on the switch on the status card to connect. The first time, iOS asks to add Potatso's VPN configuration: tap **Allow**.

To change rules and groups after import, see [Rules and rule sets](/docs/guides/rules-and-rule-sets/) and [Proxy groups and speed tests](/docs/guides/proxy-groups-and-speed-tests/).
